When we hear the question “What exactly is cloud gaming?”, our heads swell when thinking about how large and how groundbreaking the answer is. Here at GITC though, as nerdy as we are, we like to keep things simple! so… what is cloud gaming you ask?
The phrase “Cloud Gaming” essentially means that you are gaming from a cloud network with the premise being that you (the gamer) do not need a console like the PlayStation or the Xbox inside of your house to play games and instead, the game console itself lives somewhere else entirely. All the hardware necessary to run that game is held at a remote location(in the clouds) and then the game feed is streamed to your device of choice much like the way you get movies from Netflix streamed directly to you without the need of a DVD player etc.

It saves you on cost and lowers the barrier of entry because that’s hundreds of dollars you don’t have to spend for game consoles to play your games. With regards to the gaming controllers you will need to play your games, you can use old ones that you probably have laying around somewhere for even more added cost savings. On the cloud, as long as it’s Bluetooth or at the very least wired(when playing on a PC/Mac), you can use almost anything. If playing with a Chromecast and similar(more on this below), then you can use any wifi capable controller as well. COOL RIGHT?!
Why We at Game in the Clouds think it’s the future?
Due to the nature of Cloud gaming’s infancy, we won’t say that a console or a PC aren’t needed to play games anymore… but it’s going in that direction. We now live in a world where depending on your internet connection speed and gaming habits, you don’t really need a powerful beast of a computer or a physical console like the Xbox or PlayStation to play the latest and greatest of video games. As time passes and the tech matures, we can definitely see a future where this cloud infrastructure and service become more mainstream and commonplace.
So…now that we agree on how crazy this is and got the main question of “what is cloud gaming?” out of the way, the next question we need to ask is
