Truth be told, the older we get the harder it is for us to change. It’s true. We are set in our ways and although I don’t subscribe to the notion that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”, you have to admit that what we’ve had since the 70s-80s until now(which is console gaming), has held up quite nicely(Yes I’m that old lol) and so why change right?
Consider the fact that most of your friends are usually on one console and not multiple, then couple this with a sense of brand loyalty that some of us have for our favorite consoles, as well as current and existing games library, achievements, and so on… all of these things come into play when making a decision whether to get involved with any new platform or not. It’s not exactly an easy decision to make.
This all said though, what happens when something comes along that is so cool and so innovative that not only does it create a new genre, but it may have you ignoring the reasons you are where you are today, and may have you truly consider cloud gaming… What do you do? Do you sit on the sidelines and wait it out? Do you join the naysayers and/or the haters and bash it to kingdom come? Well, we here at GITC, like you, are GAMERS!!!! We play ANYTHING that is fun and innovative and cool. Why stay on one side of the fence when we can have a console and its games on each side of the fence. Be it the Microsoft fence, the Sony fence, the Nintendo fence, and now, the Cloud fence. No one said we had to have just one console. The benefit to cloud gaming is its low cost of entry. Why not take advantage and or at the very least try it.
Within the last year or three, cloud gaming has really taken off to a point where tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon amongst others are investing real dollars into their cloud infrastructure all-the-while fighting for cloud dominance. As always, competition is key. This is what drives innovation and cost. To this end, this is always good for us the consumer but as with anything else, sometimes having too many options can make selecting an option harder and more-so, can make feeling good about your decision a bit harder.
